Fuck Yes Quidditch!: Attention Graduates In or Moving to the NY Area!

I get the 10 years thing but 100lbs?  Who on our team has 100lbs on the average college kid?  Hasn’t anyone heard of the freshman 15?   It’s more like 10 years and 85lbs let’s be honest here.

That being said I am 12-15 years older than the average Quidditch player.  Can’t argue that.  For that I’m sorry Quidditch nor Harry Potter was around in 1996.  As for the 85(100)lbs thing.  Currently I am at the weight I was when I played hockey in college.  I actually gained 130 lbs when I left college and I “got a job and started settling down”.  It was when I got back into sports and exercise when I took the weight off and made fitness my life.  I started the Badassilisks to play Quidditch and do my part in helping people stay in shape.

As for the “Creeper” factor.  Really?!   This doesn’t even dignify a response.  It’s sad that you place that kind of for lack of a better term taint on a sport we all love.

You know what?!  Go ahead and quit playing once you graduate. Get a job and settle.  When you decide to dust off your broom and play we’ll still be around.

<end rant>

  Just two quick things on this, basically I agree with thegoldensnitchy, but I do have one point to make- the having 10 years on 100 lbs on a college kid, for A LOT of us on community teams is totally a disadvantage.

And to fuckyesquidditch, I don’t play the game as some kind of way to get creepy sexual jollies, and I have a life and a job and all that, I do it because it is fun and awesome, and it is pretty infuriating that people who should know the way it can bring us together have to turn it into some kind of creepy thing.
Most of us don’t even tackle all that often, and quite frankly, if it was about some sort of sexual gratification, there are about a million less painful ways to go about that.

Personally, I feel like unless there’s a pro-league where you can get paid to play Quidditch (which I don’t see happening any time soon)…. you should probably quit playing full-time after college. You know, get a job or settle down or something?

Quidditch is my…

Quinksy, while I agree that there should be a limit and have in the past controversially stated that people above a certain age should stop playing on the same level as college students… I couldn’t disagree more with what you just said. Quidditch is not the only sport that people keep up with post-college. I personally know several people in community soccer, softball and even Ultimate Frisbee leagues. There’s nothing wrong with continuing to do something you’re passionate about once you get past college-graduation age. You don’t need to stop doing something you enjoy to become an adult.

There are plenty of people in this quidditch community that DO have jobs but continue to play. Why? The majority of their friends, they met through this sport. It is their primary source of exercise. It is a way for them to escape the boring day-by-day life that having a “career” sometimes brings. You want quidditch to last longer than a few years? Then don’t try to turn graduates off the sport. The only way it can have ANY sort of longevity is if a) we reach out to younger players and b) we increase the number of community teams. Yes, in an ideal future, community teams will become such a wide-spread thing that there will be enough of them to have a league of their own. They could perhaps play events that charge admission and make a few bucks. But money, to sports players, isn’t the reason they play. It’s the feeling they get when they use all their hard work to achieve brilliance on the field. Quidditch has given SO many people a sense of accomplishment and belonging, and turning them away at the time when life becomes most difficult and confusing…. that’s downright cruel.

YOLO YOLO YOLO. Yes, once you’re at the point where you have 10 years and 100 lbs on your opponents, you should probably stive to only play those at the same level as you. But until that’s really possible, do what you love and fuck the rest.

the price of being a mercenary quidditch player

I got to play in 8 games of quidditch.  Got to see Skidmore get their first win against Chestnut Hill.  Even though my day ended in a dislocated pinky it was fun overall.

Personal Training Log 4-9-12

So today I focused primarily on sprinting.  Doing eight 200 meter sprints with  alternating tabata in the middle.  It was pretty intense.  Tomorrow I focus on strength and lifting heavy.  My boss is also going to train me on agility.

The Rogue Bludger: Drills and Exercises

Seems like everybody is posting drills and exercises to help people improve their Quidditch skills; however, it seems like everybody is focusing on the chaser/keeper games and not the beater/seeker games. And so, for every drill I see for a chaser or a keeper, I will post a suggested exercise for…
